Please click here for the Committee on Nominations & Leadership Development June 2010 Update.  A Church/Charge Conference (all-congregational meeting) was held on Tuesday, June 29th at 7 pm  for the purpose of  extending our Transitional Team structure through December 2010, and to elect persons to a few positions where natural attrition has left vacancies.  The slate has been updated below.
 
 

TRANSITIONAL TEAM – December 2009 – January 2011

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Church leadership under any structure and specifically now, with the transition team, is not supposed to do all the work of the church. They are intended to be advisors, coordinators, sounding boards, facilitators, etc. We have listed all of the members of the transition team and what area each of them will be focusing on.  We have also listed what contributions that you can make to each of the groups and we strongly encourage you to look at ways that you can connect to Broadway. BOARD OF TRUSTEES

Lori Tubbs – Chairperson

Vincent Wiggins – Secretary

Kathy Wurster – Treasurer

 

Responsible  for supervising and maintaining all church property (church and parsonage) using good stewardship and common sense to care for the church, parsonage, equipment and furnishings.

 

AREAS OF FOCUS - Plumbing, electric, painting, cleaning, snow removal, insurance, storage spaces, building usage, repair all come under this group so if you notice something that needs attention, contact one of the trustees.

 

YOUR CONTRIBUTION – Volunteer for one of the 3 or 4 workdays that are scheduled each year to work on projects (like yardwork, deep cleaning, etc.).  Identify specific tasks that you may like to do (like painting a room, creating a vegetable garden, cleaning the upholstery in the sanctuary)

 

FINANCE COMMITTEE

Responsible for stewardship, funding our ministries by managing the income and expenses of the church.

 

AREAS OF FOCUS – Pledge drive, recording the offering, writing checks to pay the bills, creates a budget and reports our financial health

 

YOUR CONTRIBUTION – Keep current with your pledge.   Be a Sunday offering counter.   Suggest areas of cost savings .  Plan a fundraiser for a specific need.

 

INVESTED FUNDS COORDINATOR

Receive and administer all gifts (wills, trusts, bequests) made to the congregation and make sure that all trust funds are invested properly.

 

AREAS OF FOCUS – Investment of existing funds and handling new bequests

 

YOUR CONTRIBUTION – Consider putting Broadway in your will

 

STAFF / PASTOR-PARISH RELATIONS

Serve as the Human Resources department of the church involved with all staff – both bishop-appointed (pastors) and employed (secretary, childcare staff, janitor, musicians, music director, security monitors).    Work with the staff so that the mission of the church is realized.

 

AREAS OF FOCUS – Compensation, performance assessment of all staff.  Hiring of any directly employed staff.

 

YOUR CONTRIBUTION – Prayerful input of your experience with the staff members.  Assisting them in large projects.

Guides the church council (or alternative structure) on issues relating to lay (non-employed) leadership of the congregation.  Engage in growth and development of disciples in Jesus Christ, focus on mission and ministry, guide and train other leaders, recruit, nurture and support people in their elected roles and assist the church council (or alternative structure) in assessing changing leadership needs.

 

AREAS OF FOCUS – Getting to know all members, their skills, gifts, knowledge and level of commitment.  Identify leadership and service opportunities within the congregation.

 

YOUR CONTRIBUTION – Come forward with your skills, gifts and interests even before being asked.  Ask, where can I serve?

NURTURE

AREAS OF FOCUS – Education, Worship, Potlucks, Coffee Hour, social events, nurturing new visitors, contacting missing members. Serving members who are home-bound or hospitalized.  Serving members in need.

 

YOUR CONTRIBUTION – Volunteer to be an usher or liturgist.  Sponsor a coffee hour.  Learn to make coffee!  Plan or contribute to a Wed night, second Sunday or holiday potluck.   Drive a member to church, visit folks in the hospital, assisting other members when they need help.
